Is it safe to clean my LCD monitor screen with lens cleaner?
My computer monitor is starting to look rather grungy. I have had it since May, but since I have been afraid of cleaning it, I haven’t. I have heard that vinegar and distilled water is a good solution, but I tried it, and it didn’t work very well. I have some no-glare lens cleaner from Wal-Mart. It says on the label that it is a non-alcohol formula.

Do not use anything that has acid (vinegar) or ammonia in it on your LCD.
LCD’s are not glass like CRT monitors.
You should be able to use any cleaner that states it is safe for laptop or LCD screens.
I have tried so many types of LCD safe cleaners for my laptops. The best thing that works for me is a damp (water) soft cloth. I usually use one of my white cotton t-shirts, freshly laundered of course in order to avoid body oils. I take one corner of it and wet it w/ warm water and then ring the excess out well. I then wipe down the screen, making sure no water trails are running down the screen that would get in between the screen and plastic frame. Then I take a dry part of the t-shirt and wipe the screen dry.
Ordinary hand soap on a damp clean cloth has always worked well for me.
The main things to avoid are alcohol, but ESPECIALLY anything containing ammonia. They do not affect all displays, but they permanently ruin some and it is rather expensive to find out the hard way, so best not to even try them.
If you do use plain hand-washing soap and a damp cloth, wipe off with another clean but damp cloth and dry off.
Good luck!
